LAHORE: The Punjab government has assigned the newly built
Post Graduate Me
dical Institute (PGMI) to conduct
postmortem examinations with 17 of the city’s police stations.
The stations are Shadman, Gulberg-1, Gulberg-2, Gulberg-3, Defence-A, Defence-B, Defence-C, South Cantt, North Cantt, Ichhra, Mustafaabad, Ghaziabad, Millat Park, Racecourse, Sarwar Road, Ghalib Market and Guldasht Town. The PGMI has been built in the Lahore General Hospital (LGH).
There are only two morgues in the city. The oldest is in King Edward Me
dical University’s Mortuary Department and the second is in Jinnah Hospital. A doctor said people faced problems due to the non-availability of more morgues in the city.
He said that due to the burden faced by the two morgues timely completion of legal pro
cedure of bodies was not
possible. He said that one more morgue has started functioning the work could be completed on time. PGMI Professor Ghayasunnabi Tayyab said the new morgue would reduce the problems of citizens.
