Questioning why luxury vehicles worth billion of rupees
owned by the government departments were being hidden after the Supreme Court’s int
ervention in the mater, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Tuesday directed the additional attorney general (AAG) to find out who gave orders to hide these vehicle
s.
During hearing of a suo motu case pertain
ing to misuse of government-
owned luxury vehicles, the chief justice noted that the vehicles
owned by various government departments were hidden after the Supreme Court sought their details.
He said he had received information that about 27 such vehicles were being hidden in a building and tha
t when Supreme Court’s additional registrar was sent to check the building, some people deputed at the building did not allow him to inspect the vehicles. He said the departments that had reportedly hidden their vehicles belonged to the Punjab government.
Later, the court adjourned the hearing for indefinite period.
Earlier on April 14, the Supreme Court had directed the cabinet secretaries of the federal and the provincial governments to submit a record of all the officers and ministers who were using luxury vehicles beyond their official entitlement. Besides, registrars of all the high courts were also directed to submit within fortnight the record of the justices who were using vehicles beyond their official entitlement.
