KARACHI: US Consul General Grace Shelton welcomed approximately 60 girls aged from 14 to 20 from Olympian Islahuddin-Dr. Shah Hockey Academy and the English Access micro-scholarship program to a female field hockey event at the Old Consul General’s Residence earlier today. The event included a mini-scrimmage between the girls, promoting inclusion and allowing the girls to immediately use the skills they had learnt. Consul General Shelton while addressing the participants said, “We want more young girls in Karachi to play field hockey, while benefiting from the sense of belonging and teamwork that comes with it.” The event was the sixth in a year-long series of sports diplomacy events targeting traditionally disadvantaged groups who face discrimination in Pakistani society, e.g., women, orphans, the economically disadvantaged, and children with disabilities.
